Společnost Google potvrdila práci na vysoce modulárním chytrém telefonu: každý uživatel si bude moci postavit vlastní smartphone dle svých požadavků, stačí si jen koupit příslušné "moduly" — nebo chcete-li, dílky skládačky. Základní model by měl vyjít na zhruba 50 dolarů, tedy v přepočtu asi tisíc korun.

 

První informace o projektu Ara prosákly ven někdy na konci října loňského roku. Google nyní dřívější spekulace potvrzuje tím, že letos v dubnu (15. – 16.) uspořádá první vývojářskou konferenci věnovanou právě tomuto novému konceptu chytrých telefonů.

Počátky projektu sahají do dílen Motoroly, kterou v roce 2011 Google odkoupil a letos zase prodal čínské společnosti Lenovo, avšak patenty a rozdělané projekty si ponechal.

Přesněji řečeno, projekt Ara je dílem skupiny ATAP, Skupiny pro pokročilé technologie a projekty. Vzhledem k povaze skupiny a jejím nápadům (a také vzhledem k její vedoucí, jíž je bývalá ředitelka organizace DARPA spadající pod americké Ministerstvo obrany) se nelze divit, že si Google divizi ponechal. Projekt Ara slibuje vytvoření modulárního chytrého telefonu, který je snadno rozšiřitelný, resp. uživatel si jej může sestavit k obrazu svému. Může, ale nemusí použít modul (dílek) pro kameru, může naopak přidat modul silnější baterie, 3G, WiFi… a postavit si tak mobil podle aktuální potřeby.

Jinými slovy, pokud vám někdy něco vadilo na vybraném telefonu, nebo vám naopak něco u některých chybělo, Ara vám umožní koupit si příslušný díl a k telefonu jej zkrátka „přicvaknout“. V nezákladnějším funkčním sestavení by měl takový telefon vyjít na zhruba 50 dolarů, tj. kolem jednoho tisíce korun.

Výhodou tohoto řešení je právě zmíněné postupné rozšiřování bez nutnosti kupovat nový model: většina dnešních smartphonů od jednoho výrobce je víceméně designově stejná, ale liší se hlavně novými procesory, kamerami s lepším rozlišením apod. Pokud vám v případě Ara telefonu nebude dostačovat výkon procesoru anebo budete toužit po lepším rozlišení fotoaparátu, nebudete už muset kupovat nový mobil, ale postačí, když si pořídíte jen jeden aktuální modul. Jak takové řešení dopadne v reálu, se budeme moci přesvědčit vlastně už zanedlouho.
